Sentry stands on Mexico’s Pacific Coast for $7.5 million, A Sun-Soaked Villa

Imagine taking, every day, a front seat at sunrise.

Set above the ocean like a sunlit citadel, Sol De Oriente in the Mexican state of Jalisco blends privacy and resort.

In the Costa Careyes luxury enclave between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo, the striking compound, estimated at $7.5 million, is situated along a protected portion of the coast.

The adjacent infinity swimming pool, which gives the appearance of a moat, is similar to the views from the castle-like main building. From a central platform surrounded by water, the corners of rooms tend to jut out. If viewed from above, the resulting shape will look, fittingly, like a sunburst. The style is complemented by a pattern on the base of the pool lounge deck.

Panoramic views include parts of the rugged nature reserve of Chamela-Cuixmala, the Pacific Ocean and the beaches below, where sea turtles frequently come to breed.

A similar-looking home named Sol De Occidente is across the bay, drinking in the sunset. Crafted for sunrise, Sol De Oriente was built for Sir James Goldsmith, a French-British businessman and politician, who ended up shopping elsewhere.

Mediterranean style and Mexican flair are mixed in the bright-yellow house, accessible by a private funicular. Multiple openings bring the living room, which has soaring ceilings and is capped by a three-tier palapa-style roof, to an indoor-outdoor quality. Broad stairways connect to a platform on the rooftop.

Against the white walls of the three bedrooms, natural wood shutters stand out. White floors help to have a smooth effect.

Outside the gated courtyard of the house sits a circular motor park. A scrolling form finishes with the angled walls surrounding the parking space. There’s a lawn beyond. Palm trees dot the scenery.
